"Remington’s goal is to create connection between students and educators, which creates safe spaces for children to learn and enhances the educational environment. He wants his fellow teachers to be equipped to communicate and relate, so that students may succeed in the framework in which their entire lives are encompassed."

— Albert Tsay, Senior Tax Analyst, Bridgestone Americas, Inc.

"Remington Holt is one of the most dedicated educators when it comes to the process of grounding school systems, structures, and pedagogy in restorative and humanizing practices. His understanding of cultural asset-based pedagogy, funds of knowledge, and community and cultural wealth is on par with experts in the field. Remington is a gifted educator who has a keen eye for equity and justice-based school practices."

— Chris George, Assistant Principal, Jere Baxter Elementary

Remington’s presentation was impactful because…

“He was an excellent and engaging speaker! I felt it was truly impactful for us as a staff to have exposure to different world view and different lens of culture. I also really appreciated the reflection activity!”

— Teacher

“I realized how narrow my problem solving skills are as it pertains to inclusivity. I was forced to think outside of the box to come up with a solution which was more challenging than I anticipated.”

— School Administrator

“It forced me to take a harder look at the different areas of privilege and exclusion. I didn't like much of what I saw but that doesn't change the fact that it is a reality...one I would like to see change during my lifetime.”

— Teacher

"I remember vividly how proudly he shared the work of one student in particular whom no other teacher was able to reach, who, after some time with Remington, produced a beautiful strategy for a ratio problem because Remington understood him, and knew the educational and emotional vocabulary that the student needed from him in order to open up."

— Monica Olaru, French & Robotics Teacher, Battle Ground Academy

"Remington uses that understanding to build groups toward alignment and action rather than conflict. He is certainly not the kind of facilitator who simply makes accusations and shakes things up...instead he has honest and open conversations and works to find genuine solutions that lead to growth and cohesion."

— Joshua Gutzmann, Teach for America 2018 Corps Member

What did you learn about the experience of marginalized people from Remington’s presentation?

“I was also made more aware of the scope of the need for marginalized people to navigate multiple cultures to survive, as opposed to the dominant segment's safety in relying on a single cultural perspective to survive.”

“The discussion about white women voting for Trump was interesting. I did not vote during that election, but if I did I probably would have voted for Trump for many reasons; however, I never thought about the possibility of "voting against" white women by voting for Trump. It just made me think a little bit more.”

— Teacher

“I had never thought about the intersection between whiteness and feminism in the way it was talked about during the workshop...I was familiar with the tendency for white women to only jump on board when it affected them, but I hadn't considered this a function of white privilege.”
